I am just about to land in Moscow. Which means that even though I am exhausted and my legs hurt from sitting for soo long I'm not even half way there. One of my biggest problems is that my nose is a faucet and has been for the majority of the flight. I'm not sure if I can get off here or not.... I'll have to ask a stewardess. I hope I can at least walk around the airport.
I am back on the plane in the same seat for another flight of the same length... another 12 hours. I was only in the Moscow airport for just over an hour but it was very interesting. Even though I am stopped up I could still smell the smoke from the fires raging outside even though it was mostly clear outside. Many of the same observations I have made about the Polish can be said even more so about the Russians. there was a mustached cleaning lady only interested in cleaning where people were resting and nowhere else. One thing that I remember about the Polish that can be said of Russians is the ability to cut in front of you in a line without pushing you out of the way. Just inching, inching, inching. It took all of my will to fight off two guys trying to get ahead of me boarding the plane. After having lost over a dozen such battles in the check in line I was ready for this renewed cold war and refused to budge. A small victory made even less so when they both sat down right next to me but still. The battle for the armrest is already lost but Capitalism won so I can let them have their small victories. This is going to be a loong flight. I didn't sleep at all on the last flight surely I will at least catch an hour or so on this one. One down side I have found to this plane is its temperature. Its either way to hot or borderline polar. Crazy to thing that in not just my lifetime but my recent memory there was hardly anything more than one or two movies and re-run of Frasier as in flight entertainment.
Well, I'm getting close. I just flew over the Adaman islands which are still almost entirely untouched by modernity and I am about to land in Singapore. Somehow this flight wasn't as bad as the first even though I had more leg room on the former. I've maybe slept for one or two hours in the last three days and thats being generous yet somehow I'm not completely zonked. My legs are killing me from having sat for so long but my knees are okay and my allergies for the most part have been dormant for this flight. When I get to Jakarta it will be early morning, I should try to stay awake for as long as pissible but no matter what I do its going to be tough. I wish I could wrap my head around this but it still feels surreal. I'm going to crash when I get there I just know it. All the way to the complete other side of the world! We flew over Afghanistan, crazy.
