Wednesday oh beautiful wednesday

So today is going to be even easier than normal. I already have all my grading done and my 4th grade test is written. After class today I am going over to the Wowor's to attempt baking a Pecanless Pecan pie. Haven't decided on almonds or walnuts yet. We'll see how that goes. What will be fun though is that I am following Fini on my bike all the way to their house. What will be interesting is if I can find my way back. Its going to be tricky I know but I really want to get out for more than just a few minutes here and there. I haven't really ventured too far because I don't know the roads and they can be very tricky.

In other more pressing news, North Korea has stepped up its crazy game. They fired artillery into South Korea directly onto a military base. South Korea fired back and has threatened any further action will be considered invasion and warrant a missile attack. What a game of chess the Korean crisis is. Just like the Cuban crisis the danger of attacking the weak and pitiful North Koreans is that they have no qualms inflicting injury on even their own. They do have an enormous army and plenty of munitions albeit of low technological caliber. They possess low grade uranium which even in its lowest grade is still very dangerous, and they are essentially crazy! Yet they are most likely the cause of the sinking of a South Korean ship and think little of firing artillery on civilians. Something must be done to at least curb their crazy. But is it worth the risk? To me, yes. Something has to be done. But, perhaps it would be best  to wait until Kim Jong Il dies. That is why I am not in charge of massive armies and navies, but South Korea has been practicing the give a mouse a cookie technique for too long and the North is spoiled. They know they can have little temper tantrums and act out and because of their Chinese ally no one will react aside from attempting to calm the situation. Its getting absurd. I don't want people to die and if conflict occurs there could be significant casualties but so many North Koreans die and have died over the last 60 years to warrant action.
If the North collapses I will be on the first plane possible to visit. I have always wanted to see with my own eyes what it is like up there and to see what a true dictatorship and communism involves.

Part of me is disgusted at my own inability to humanize the situation. I am so desensitized to war and its consequences that I just want the North and South to get it over with and have a showdown. But what horrors could occur, what devastating events, what tragedies I cannot even comprehend. Not since the Georgian Russian 2 minute war has two modern armies fought a real war and that hardly counts. Really since ww2 there has not been a significant war of modern and devastating consequences. That is the biggest worry. However low tech and backwards the North is in almost all respects they make up for in military might and will.

I will be watching.... waiting... praying.
