TII

There is a saying amongst fellow ex pats living in Jakarta. "This is Indonesia". Meaning there is no other explanation for the bizarre and unorthodox things you see on a daily basis than simply it is because it is.
This morning after arriving to school I went to where for the past year an a half we have had morning devotionals only to find that it had been moved without notice to ANYONE to a room half the size. In so doing half (seems logical right) of the students or parents had no seats. They realised much too late that it was inadequate.
It just seems like simple logic and basic reasoning are just thrown out the window here. Just yesterday I received my 23rd revision to the school schedule. 23rd! That means that I have had to alter my weekly lesson plans, lunch schedule, and any other time constricted activities 23 times. And the worst part is that everyone just acts like its no big deal! As if even though it is a major inconvenience because it is normal it should be tolerated.
When Westerners come over here and get massive praise for not only getting things done quickly but having lasting results there is no application, just admiration. It can be so frustrating! In my new apartment there are 4 electrical outlets in the entire apartment. One of which is for no apparent reason near my ceiling which renders it unusable. And there is no explanation for it, it just is. TII.
At any given mall the escalators are not in any way set in a coordinating manner. You go up one, then have to walk five minutes to find another one going up.
Everyone sees the problems, they admit it should be changed, and yet do nothing to change it. It just is... TII.
