One step after the next

I am in such a routine at the moment just continuing on with my work and life. I've said it before but it really is a problem for those of us who travel or pursue an adventurous life; the hatred of normalcy. Whenever I go more than a few days without anything new or interesting I am faced with the desire to shake everything up and embark on some sort of journey. But when I step back I realise how much of an adventure every day really is. Just this morning on my way to work I was riding my motorcycle through absolute madness of traffic. Cars, buses, and bikes all weaving about without any laws to govern them but due to the fact that it has become normal I hardly even think about it. I need to take a step back and realise how amazing my life is sometimes.

In other news, I allowed a friend to update my iphone to the newest OS but since he was not aware that it was an unlocked phone he accidentally re-locked it making it unusable anywhere outside of the US. So I've got an iphone that is little more than a paperweight at the moment. I have to wait until the next jailbreak software comes out or until I return to the states before I can use it again. Heartbreaking... So I have decided to buy an iphone 3Gs in the mean time. I have been using a friends phone for the past 2 weeks now but it is as basic as it gets. The frustrating thing is not having email or camera on hand whenever I want. I hadn't realised how accustomed I had become to having the world at my fingertips at all times.

I have been teaching my 5 graders about Monasticism this week and thusly assigned them a monastic project which is to live like a monk for 2 days. They are not allowed to touch electronics or eat sweet or junk food during those 2 days as well as documenting their time. For very wealthy kids living in a big city this is about as close to torture as they can imagine. Their parents on the other hand are beyond ecstatic at the idea of enforcing a break from handphones, video games, computers, ipads, ipods, tv, as well as forced healthy eating. (I am aware of the  irony of just having complained about only having a basic phone).
