Sarkozy

I read on BBC this morning that Sarkozy feels that there are too many foreigners in France and if re elected he will reduce by a half those allowed in. The problem with the Government providing anything and everything for its citizens is that the citizens must pay a high price for this ideal. Now lets say that the economy is in a bit of a slump or perhaps that many people wish to partake of this system... it is so fragile that it cannot sustain any extra burden. Socialism and welfare states are inherently unsustainable and contradictory. France, you are part of the EU, you championed the EU and are fighting to keep it together! What hubris to suggest that because it is no longer benefiting you that you want to close your borders. Is it unthinkable to have mass immigration and still flourish? Look at Asia and the middle East? They might have some human rights issues to deal with but they seam to make it work. People go there to work. People go to France to suck on the udders of the Socialist Government. Essentially what Sarkozy is saying is that he wants all the Roma, North Africans, and Eastern Europeans out. He is being horribly racist but that is the way politics are leaning in Europe right now. Western Europeans are terrified of anyone who is not exactly themselves.

When I lived in Switzerland which is one of the most beautiful and friendly places I have ever been in my life I discovered something sinister. There is a deep dark hatred and fear of anything outside their borders (and sometimes outside their own cantons). Being generally polite and reserved as they are most visitors would never know how xenophobic the Swiss really are.

I come from the Southern part of the United states which has a reputation for racism and general intolerance. And while there is some basis of truth in that the reality is that the majority of those who are racist are usually uneducated and lets face it.. stupid.

Whereas the racism you find in Europe is one of educated and non educated alike. Educated racism is much scarier to me.

Not like Sarkozy's opponent is any better though... poor poor France...
