A new president x2

I have reserved myself from writing about the presidential election in the US until now. I knew that Obama would be victorious as Mitt Romney was not much of an opponent.

My thoughts? Well to be honest they are somewhat shaped by my current situation: I live overseas, in asia, in a muslim majority country. One thing that Obama has done is to improve international relations. The United States is not look upon with half as much disgust and anger as it was during the time of President Bush. I live overseas, I deal with people all the time telling me that they hate America and that hatred stems from policies that are often linked to President Bush. The truth is that Obama has done little to better international relations and in many ways has soured them. From Pakistan to Israel, from Russia to China Obama has done little to impress. The biggest failure of the Obama administration has been its dismal record domestically. The US economy has never been in such a state of crisis and his administration has done nothing but exacerbate the situation and spend money that doesn't exist to no avail.

Mitt Romney is a political robot with very little spine and even less personality. He constantly stuck his foot in his mouth and was internationally inept. However, his administration and policies were much more capable of easing the economic crisis in the United States.

So, Romney would have been good for Americans in America, Obama is good for Americans outside of America. Only time will tell of whats to come but the future does not look bright enough to require shades.

Another bigtime election was the one that took place in China. Xi Jinping has been elected as the 5th generation President of the Communist party of China. His predecessor faced huge economic challenges and brought China into huge successes with the introduction of capitalism via communism. Xi Jinping will now face the problems of a China growing steadily unhappy with the financial disparity and lack of freedoms expected with growth. What will come? Again, only time will tell.

Maybe the Mayans were right after all....

  1. The last sentence was my favorite!! Hahaha! I would love to see you sit down with Logan Davis. He LOVES to argue politics. It normally drives me crazy, but it would actually be interesting to see someone his age argue it intelegently with him!

  2. The foreign policy issue falls out differently in different parts of the world: America's adversaries, rivals, and enemies really like Obama; America's closest allies, friends, and dependents despise Obama. In Israel, for instance, Obama polls 92% unfavorable, in the UK, he polls 78% unfavorable, and throughout free Africa, he polls an average of 96% unfavorable.
