Getaway to the islands

This weekend I went to the Thousand Islands again with a group of friends. Its only a few hours away and its so cheap! For the whole day including a house to stay at and home cooked food only about 40 dollars US. Unfortunately seeing as it is the rainy season it did pour down rain on us for a good 2-3 hours but the rest of the day was great. Pulau seribu is just a gorgeous part of the world. Turquoise waters, white sand, dolphins, and surprisingly few tourists. The villagers are generally shocked to see white people and are more than happy to wave if not at least stare at you. Its just a shame to go from such a beautiful place to within about 1 and a half hours a place like Jakarta... When you get close to Jakarta suddenly the water turns from a brilliant blue to a dull brown. The speedboat has to stop every 15 minutes or so to detach trash from the propellors and the city in the distance is hidden under a dark brown fog. I know why, but sometimes I have to ask myself why I live here...

I miss living in beauty, I miss breathing crisp fresh air, I miss so many things. For now though... the benefits still outnumber all the negatives... Ahh Jakarta
