I haven't been to school for the last 2 days. The demonstrations reached their peak last night. One of my close friends father runs a security company so he knows best where to be or not to be. He told us not to leave Kuningan which is the very small area that we live in. I was watching tv and it was so bizarre to see what was happening just a few kilometres away. The strangest part is that in my part of the city everything was completely normal. People going about their day as if nothing is happening, it is so calm and with the knowledge that people are dying not far away it is just indescribable.
I always wondered what it would be like to be in a city when there were riots or warfare. I've only seen movies or perhaps the news but that does it no justice. In all honesty its like nothing is happening. Aside from a few parts of this massive city life is just carrying on.
While I was watching the news last night with live coverage of the demonstrations they were also showing the inside of the Indonesian parliament as they debated the fuel subsides. On the left half of the screen were riot police pushing through crowds, fireworks and petrol bombs blowing up, while on the right half of the screen they kept showing one member of parliament fast asleep.
