I forgot to mention that the other day I went to a pool competition in Kemang. All went well, had fun, then planned to return home... emphasis on planned. Kemang sits at a low point in Jakarta by the way. The only reason why I might mention that is because flooding in Indonesia is a reality day to day. There is no if just when. So as I began to leave the sky suddenly opened up and dumped olympic swimming pool sized drops of rain. It was an immense amount of rain to say the least. As I mentioned previously Kemang sits low so yes it began to flood. I went to a friends place to watch some footy hoping that the rain would slow and the flooding would subside... An hour or two latter and no sign of letting off. I decided to brave it and try and go home. The problem was that every road out was flooded over. I would turn around and the road behind me was flooded as well, so I would turn left and find a flooded road... etc etc. Not only was everyone in my car frustrated but so were every other driver on the roads. We were all trying to find some back road that wasn't flooded or at least a way back to a main road. At one point a large group of cars and motorcycles were all turning around and while I was waiting for my turn I heard a loud bang... A man in a brand new bmw had backed right into my rear passenger door.
Most of the time in Indonesia it is not wise to exit the car in a situation like this. It will almost always be the bule's fault and the chances of getting beaten up or worse are quite possible. But after having spent the last hour driving around trying to find a way home I was in no mood to let this one slide. Luckily the man was honest and admitted all fault without any confrontation.
All that to say that my car is in the shop right now and I don't know when I will get her back. It wasn't too bad just a dent but seeing as how it is someone else's car I still feel awful.
